The new Chumby is here !

Is it a toy? an internet radio? a clock? a digital picture frame? It is really hard to tell because Chumby is all that and much more. It's lovable leather-pillow soft out-case has been removed and its price lowered from $199 to just $99, but it is still the the same... "thing". Whatever that is.

Chumby has a 1 hour rechargeable battery but it is meant to be connected, probably standing in your night table or your desk. It also has a speaker, a touch screen, wireless access to the internet, a USB port that can take a few devices including a SSD key with your music in mp3. It also has an FM receiver.

What makes it so special is the collection of small widgets you can download from its website, giving the little critter countless applications. To date, you can find more that 1500 such little flash-created apps. And if you are of the DIY kind, you can program your Chumby to do whatever you like, from a holiday calendar display to a remote webcam visor.

Yamaha's new sound proyector

The YSP-4000 is Yamaha's new digital Sound Projector. It offers features such as, iPod and XM HD surround compatibility, 1080p-compatible HDMI, analog video to HDMI digital video up-conversion, and component / composite inputs. Other features include: built-in FM tuner, RS-232C for custom installation and a wide variety of beam settings, including My Surround Beam, for a true multi-channel surround sound experience from a single component.

Motorized space-saving DVD tower

The "DVD" Power Tower occupies barely a square foot yet neatly organizes up to 80 DVD movies in their cases. Turn the switch right or left and your entire collection rotates clockwise or counterclockwise, fanning the front, spine and back of each DVD case for easy viewing as they rotate past at a comfortable, back-saving height.

A built-in LED lamp illuminates the cases in a darkened room. When you find the DVD you want, release the switch to stop the motor and slide out the case. The lamp turns off automatically about 20 seconds after rotation stops.

The Panasonic Vortex HydraClean Shaver System is a pretty amazing device. Using a set of pretty sharp blades at 30 degree angles the pivoting head really follow the curve of your chin. A patented 13,000 rpm linear motor from Panasonic is the soul of this little shaving beast. But maybe the most unique feature would be a water/detergent infused cleansing process instead of alcohol based one for a safe effective cleaning of the razor. Check it out.

Amazing little brick

The Tivoli brand is not foreign to audiophiles around the world. The beauty of their products is evident to the eye and to the ear. The iPAL radio, at just 6.25 x 3 and a half inches, is a pretty little brick simple to operate, as it should be. It has the right features, no more, no less. My favorite one is the NiMH rechargeable battery, that makes it portable. The Henry Kloss designed analog AM/FM tuner is hard to beat, but if you prefer your own tunes, the iPAL is designed to connect to your iPod.
